FAQs
1. What is the 3S battery capacity indicator used for?
It is used to provide a quick visual indication of the approximate charge level of a 3S lithium battery pack.
2. What does 3S mean?
3S means three battery cells connected in series. The total pack voltage is the combined voltage of the three cells.
3. Can it be used with 18650 batteries?
Yes. It is designed for 3S 18650 lithium-ion battery packs and other compatible 3-cell lithium battery configurations.
4. Can it be used with Li-Po batteries?
Yes. It can be used with compatible 3S Li-Po battery packs, provided the pack voltage is suitable for the indicator.
5. How does the battery indicator work?
The module monitors the battery pack voltage and displays the approximate charge level using an LED bar. More illuminated segments generally indicate a higher battery voltage.
6. Does it show the exact battery percentage?
No. It provides an approximate battery-level indication based on voltage. Actual remaining capacity can vary depending on battery condition, load, temperature, and battery characteristics.
7. How do I connect the module?
Connect the module's positive terminal to battery positive and negative terminal to battery negative. The LED display will operate from the battery being monitored.
8. Does the module require a separate power supply?
No. It is powered directly from the battery pack being monitored.
9. Can it be used for RC cars?
Yes. It is suitable for monitoring compatible 3S battery packs used in RC cars.
10. Can it be used for RC boats?
Yes. It can provide a convenient visual battery indication for 3S-powered RC boats and bait boats.
11. Can it be used in drones?
Yes, it can be used with suitable 3S battery-powered drones or quadcopters, provided its size, weight, and voltage requirements are suitable for the application.
12. Can it be used in robotics projects?
Yes. It is useful for 3S battery-powered robots and mobile robotic platforms where a quick visual indication of battery level is required.
13. Can it be used with a 3S battery pack made from 18650 cells?
Yes. A correctly configured 3S 18650 battery pack is a suitable application.
14. Is this module a battery charger?
No. It is only a battery-level indicator and cannot charge a battery.
15. Does it work as a BMS or battery protection circuit?
No. The module does not provide cell balancing, overcharge protection, over-discharge protection, or short-circuit protection. Use an appropriate BMS or protection circuit separately.
16. Can it be connected while the battery is being used?
Yes. It can be used to monitor the battery while the battery is powering a compatible project, provided the module is connected correctly and operated within its specifications.
17. Can it be used with other battery types?
It is primarily intended for 3S lithium battery configurations. Do not assume compatibility with NiMH, lead-acid, or other battery chemistries simply because their voltage may overlap; verify the module's voltage thresholds and intended use first.
18. What are the common applications?
It can be used in RC cars, RC boats, drones, robotics, DIY power supplies, portable power systems, battery packs, electric vehicles, solar projects, and battery-powered electronics.
19. Is the module easy to install?
Yes. It uses a simple positive and negative battery connection, making it easy to integrate into many DIY projects.
20. Is the battery included?
No. The package includes 1 × 3S 18650 Li-Po Lithium Battery Capacity Indicator Module only. Battery packs, wires, connectors, and other accessories are not included unless specifically mentioned.
