🟩 Product Description
The LX1972 Ambient Light Sensor IC is a silicon-based light sensor designed to closely match the spectral response of the human eye. Its built-in circuitry is tuned to peak around 520 nm, while keeping IR sensitivity extremely low (less than ±5% above 900 nm). This makes the LX1972 ideal for applications where light detection must behave similarly to natural human vision — such as display backlight control and ambient light compensation systems.
The device uses an integrated PIN photodiode array with a highly linear and repeatable output current response. The internal high-gain current mirrors amplify the photo-current to a useful level. The output current can be easily converted to a voltage using a single external resistor, making the LX1972 simple and cost-effective to use.
The sensor operates reliably from 1.8V headroom at 1000 Lux, supports a usable light range from 1 to over 5000 Lux, and includes temperature compensation to maintain accuracy — keeping dark current below 200 nA across the full temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
This makes the LX1972 ideal for automatic brightness control and energy-efficient display backlighting in consumer and portable electronics.
