The Current Sensor Breakout – ACS723 is a highly precise board employing the ACS723 for accurate AC and DC current sensing applications. Utilizing a Hall effect sensor, it generates a voltage proportional to the current flowing through the IP+ and IP- pins on the board. An advantage of the Hall effect sensor is the electrical isolation between the sensed circuit and the circuit reading the sensor. This isolation ensures safe operation even when the Arduino runs on 5V, and the sensed circuit operates at higher DC or AC voltages.

This versatile Current Sensor Breakout measures both DC and AC currents up to 5A, offering complete electrical isolation between the measured and sensed circuits. With a base sensitivity of 400mV/A, the analog output has an adjustable bandwidth up to 80kHz. However, the ACS723 Sensor Breakout has a default bandwidth filter set to 20kHz to minimize noise at high gains. The full 80kHz bandwidth can be restored by closing the JP1 (Bandwidth Select) jumper on the board’s back. This breakout is an excellent choice for applications requiring accurate current measurement, electrical isolation, and flexibility in bandwidth adjustment.
