Water turbidity refers to the cloudiness caused by suspended particles like silt, clay, organic matter, plankton, and microorganisms in water. Industrial-grade turbidity sensors can be costly, making them impractical for electronic product designs. For applications in household appliances, washing machines, and dishwashers, a cost-effective turbidity sensor is preferred. This sensor utilizes optical principles to assess turbidity by considering light transmittance and scattering rates in the solution.
Inside the sensor is an infrared tube that emits light through the water. The amount of light transmission is dependent on the water’s cleanliness, with dirtier water allowing less light to pass through. The receiving end converts the transmitted light intensity into a corresponding current. More transmitted light results in a larger current, while less transmitted light leads to a smaller current.
The turbidity sensor module transforms the sensor’s current signal output into a voltage signal, undergoing AD conversion data processing through a single-chip microcomputer. The module offers both analog and digital output interfaces. The analog quantity can be sampled and processed to assess current water pollution, while the digital value can be adjusted using the module’s potentiometer to set the trigger threshold.
When the turbidity reaches the set threshold, the D1 indicator illuminates, the sensor module’s output transitions from a high to a low level, and the single-chip monitors this level change to determine if water turbidity exceeds the standard. This information can trigger warnings or activate other equipment. The module is affordable, user-friendly, and provides high measurement accuracy.
The module connects to the turbidity sensor using the 3Pin XH-2.54 connector. To adjust the trigger threshold of the digital output, rotate the knob of the 10K blue potentiometer.
Here are the pin definitions for the module:
– VCC: Positive supply voltage. Use 5V; 3.3V is not recommended.
– AO: Analog signal output. Output voltage range is 0~5V.
– DO: Digital signal output. Outputs a high level if less than the set value and a low level if greater than the set value.
– GND: Negative supply voltage.
The module has a size of 38.6mm*22.1mm.
