Design and Construction
The module features a standard 1602 LCD form factor with a blue backlight and white characters. Its 16-pin parallel interface provides access to power, control, data, and backlight connections.
The onboard LCD controller is compatible with the widely used HD44780 standard, allowing the display to be used with many existing LCD libraries and microcontroller platforms.
The module measures approximately 80mm × 35mm × 9mm, with a viewing area of approximately 64.5mm × 16mm.
Working Principle
The LCD receives commands and character data from a microcontroller through its RS, R/W, E, and D0–D7 pins. The RS pin selects between command and data registers, while the R/W pin determines whether the operation is reading or writing.
The Enable (E) signal controls when the LCD processes the supplied command or data. Character data is then displayed on the 16×2 screen. The V0 pin can be used to adjust the display contrast.
The blue backlight illuminates the display to provide a clear background with white characters.
